JOIN OUR TEAM

Our People Are Everything.

We mean that. We believe 100%, that our coffee and products are second-to-none—but we acknowledge that the brown liquid in the cup can only ever be a fraction of the experience. In other words, the coffee may be why customers first find us—but the people they meet here, and the way they are treated—those are the reasons our customers come back.

We are ALWAYS looking for humble, kind, hardworking people—from any background under the sun—who want to build a career here. We are much more than a coffee shop—we are a small business. Our team—including our baristas—is involved with things that range far beyond making coffee and food—marketing, social media, photography, design, community outreach, event planning and management, cocktails, merchandising, coffee production, and operations management just to name a few. What we do is very difficult to be sure—but if you have the right attitude and truly want to work hard to build something special—we probably have a spot for you. And if we don’t today, there’s a good chance we will soon.

We are currently interviewing for the following positions (part time and/or full time):

Wholesale Manager (Full or Part time):

This is a sales position but isn’t just about selling… This position is all about maintaining our wholesale customer relationships in addition to helping us grow our program! This takes someone who is knowledgeable (or willing to learn) the ins and outs of growing a business to help our customers with theirs as well as becoming experts in our product, brand and mission all while providing exceptional customer service. We are looking for someone with a passion for coffee who is adaptable in a fast paced environment and has a flexible schedule.

This person is expected to not only help train customers and maintain their equipment, but also learn about our coffee and help each customer ensure they are confident in what they are brewing!

You’ll also work directly with our production team and founder, Matt Marietti.

Events / Social Media Manager:

We have some awesome live music and other events planned for the summer already but we are looking for someone to take on and lead our events program and take it to the next level! We aren’t a traditional venue but we’ve hosted a lot of different style events in the past few years like cocktail competitions, jam sessions, art shows and more. Looking for someone with an adaptable and flexible schedule who is willing to not only plan but also help execute events.

Highline Location Manager:

You’ll be able to work on big picture projects and oversee our first extended location we opened in April of 2021. The Highline is about to hit its peak season with Summer just around the corner and we’re looking for someone to take on the unique challenge of growing this location. You’ll have a lot of solo shifts but definitely have opportunities to work alongside multiple team members day in and out.

Cook/Baker:

We are looking for anyone who loves to make food. It doesn't matter if you consider yourself a cook, chef, baker or enthusiastic home cook--if you love food and people, we'd love to hear from you.

We prepare simple, yet thoughtful café food out of top quality ingredients, often as-from-scratch as possible. We like to think of it as the food most of us would cook at home for our loved ones, if we had the time, space and ingredients. Actually, most of our menu DOES come from things we discovered at home. Experience is always nice, but if you’re a passionate and dedicated home cook—that’s good enough for us. That’s how nearly all of us started. :)

We offer flexible schedule, reasonable hours (we're don't typically work past 10pm), paid time off and a retirement savings plan.

In addition, we're not a typical restaurant. We're a family and employee owned and operated coffee company and cafe--so you'll have the opportunity to learn about far more than cooking, if you're interested. Coffee, cocktails, event planning, beer, wine, coffee roasting and production, merchandising, wholesale and small business management in general--are just a few of the other areas you may learn with time. We're a small company, so we all wear a lot of hats, and there will always be opportunity to grow for those who want it.

Barista/Cashiers:

This job title really isn’t very accurate. We’re a small company, and EVERYONE wears tons of hats. Our baristas, are of course also cashiers. They also manage inventory, stock shelves, do dishes, take photos, invent recipes, make cocktails, haul stuff, create coffee recipes, run events, and solve problems too—though that is still just a fraction of what goes on during a typical shift.

Most of our roles pay $11-$13/hr to start (Management positions may vary) + a shared tip pool. Benefits include a retirement savings plan with employer match, free food and coffee, free yoga, great discounts, flexible scheduling and starting in April 2024—a health benefit in the form of Direct Primary Care.

If you’d like to apply, send a resume and cover letter telling us why you want to be a part of our team, and why you’d make a great fit. Send it to hiring@defer.coffee
