Villa Rica

We’ve been searching for a mega-easy-going coffee, and we found it in this Peru from a producer that puts responsible sourcing at the heart of all that they do. This coffee is light, round, sweet and mellow–the definition of an all-day crusher. Subtle notes of fruit, balanced with a subtle sweetness. Also, this is a nice practical choice for light coffee lovers who don’t always want the high level of acidity (and cost) that comes with most of the light coffees that we roast.

Orders received by 5pm Thursday will be delivered or ship Friday. Orders received after that will go out the following Friday.

Free Delivery & Shipping: We offer free delivery for all of Pittsburgh and many surrounding neighborhoods for orders of 2 bags or more ($30+). Shipping is free anywhere in the US for orders of $45 or more. Otherwise, we share shipping and you pay $5 flat rate anywhere in the US.

NOTE: If you choose “French Press” grind, expect it to be finer than usual, so you’re guaranteed good extraction. Some ultra fine coffee particles will make it through the screen and create a flavorful, albeit slightly opaque cup. In other words, we choose flavor over aesthetics. 🙂   If you want to keep your cup looking cleaner, choose a pour over grind.

This coffee was grown and produced by Shared-X Impact Farming--a company that puts responsible sourcing at the forefront of what they do. They operate specialty coffee farms in addition to businesses related to fruit/vegetable extracts, produce and even sustainable lumber. To them, "Impact Farming means access to modern technology and specialty markets for smallholder farmers, ultimately creating empowerment in global communities while promoting renewable sustainable environments"--and that is a mission we can get behind. They operate a vertically integrated supply chain, meaning that when we buy coffee from them, we are buying from the same people who grew and processed the coffee.

This specific coffee comes from one of their farms called Finca Matapalo--an 18-hectare specialty coffee farm located in Chanchamayo, Junin,. Finca Matapalo is also home to the wet mill where all Shared-X coffees begin their processing and drying stages.

Finca Matapalo has 13 full-time employees. During harvest, Finca Matapalo’s workforce swells to over 80 employees, including pickers and other farm personnel. They work together to ensure only the best cherries are selected. The farm has 33 different species of natural shade trees which enables Finca Matapalo to receive Rainforest Alliance certification.
